Aalo, Feb 14: Celebrating this year’s National Tourism Day with the theme “Adopt a Village” for model tourism implementation, the Department of Tourism has adopted Dechengthang village nearby Mechukha in Shi Yomi District. Mechukha has been a popular tourist destination in recent times but there are few places in and around it where tourism has not yet percolated.
Inaugurating the village, ADC Mecukha Dr. Manjuli Komut congratulated the natives and emphasized on protecting the local culture, food, and architecture that has so much to offer to the tourists.
Tourist Information Officer, Bishal Aran explained the aims and objectives of the programme and also urged all to keep the village clean and plastic free and ban hunting of wild animals and birds. He further explained the importance and the benefits of operating home stays for the local populace and sought cooperation from the village community for successful implementation of tourism projects to make the village an example for others to emulate.
ADO Norbu Naksang, BEO Jigme Onge also spoke on tourism prospect of the village. Activities like local cuisine, handicraft items, artefacts and identification of potential tourist destinations in and around the village were taken up on the day. DIPRO
