ITANAGAR, Mar 28: An inter-college debate competition on the topic ‘Has Arunachal truly evolved as a vibrant democracy since last 32 years’ was conducted today at Himalayan University where twenty one students participated.
The debate competition is being organised by District Administration Capital Complex at various colleges here to generate awareness on free and fair election.
Like any debate there were opinions and counter-opinions. Those who agreed with the statement highlighted how Arunachal has become more vibrant with increased urbanization, education level and living standards which all have collectively contributed towards its forward march.
Those who differed, opined that the state is still to become vibrant as the problems of unemployment, corruption and nepotism are rampant. They also drew comparison with Mizoram which attained statehood on the same day with Arunachal but is now way ahead in all respects.
Registrar of the University Dr. Vivek Mittal said, “debate is a sport which trains one’s analytical, critical & quick thinking, persuasive speaking, note-taking, speed reading, and in-depth research.” He also stressed on keeping the elections fair and maintaining the sanctity of the world’s largest democracy.
The winners of the debate were Diana Mum Tamuk and Millo Munya and runners-up were Omen Pangam and Likha Raja.
The winners would now compete with winners of other colleges in the inter-college debate competition that would be held on April 3 at Dera Natung Government College here in capital.
DC Himanshu Gupta hoped that such competitions provide a platform to the students to express their views and also generate awareness amongst them.
Assistant Professor, Himalayan University Jumge Pale coordinated and conducted the debate. Dean Academics, Arunodaya University Dr. Sohan Jha , Assistant Professors Dr. Doi Ette, Ripe Bagra and Bomter Dirchi were the judges. Director Administration, D. Bagra delivered the vote of thanks.
