ITANAGAR, May 18:Amid the ongoing spell of pre-monsoon showers lashing the capital complex Itanagar, monsoon preparedness meeting was held today at the Conference hall of Deputy commissioner, Itanagar which was chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, ICC cum CEO, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Talom Dupak.

The meeting was attended by SP Fire &emergency service, Kime Aya, CMEO, Dr. Olik Taring and stakeholders of disaster management under the capital complex.

Various issues like preparation of department-wise monsoon preparedness SOPs, roles and responsibilities of concern department, disaster relief measures, early warning systems, checking the readiness of equipment and communication systems, advance procurement of necessary relief materials, coordinated approach for disaster response in the districts and community-based disaster management and lessons learned from the previous preparedness and disaster response activities etc were presented by Moromi Dodum Sonam in the power point presentation  and discussed thoroughly at length in the meeting. She also informed that the toll free Number for DM under capital complex 1077 have been activated.

DDMA Dupak while urging the participants to take advance action in order to tackle the upcoming monsoon has directed all the line departments to further review and submit their disaster management plans as soon as possible. He emphasized the need for greater coordination and co-operation from various stakeholders and non-governmental agencies in order to tackle disasters collectively. He laid stress on timely issuance of notice to people living in vulnerable areas and maintaining stocks of lifesaving drugs and food grains.

Vital suggestions and preventive measures for the upcoming monsoon were shared and deliberated upon by the members present.

 Along with the monsoon preparedness, DEC was also held wherein relief assistance to be provided to the recent victims of thunderstorm/cyclone and pending cases of fire accidents have been  examined, discussed and finalised in the said meeting.

Further, the DC informed that relief package for victims affected in the recent cyclone & other fire accidents has been considered and finalized in the DEC today and shall be disbursed by next week.
