PANGIN, May 9: In order to assess the recent damage to the Pangin-Pasighat stretch of Trans Arunachal Highway near Rottung and also to take stock of the state of preparedness in case of such eventualities and other natural disasters in the district in the foreseeable future, a meeting was held on Tuesday here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Siang District, Rahul Singh which was attended by SP i/c T. Mingki, DDMO i/c Pebika Lego, AE PWD (Highway) Ibrahim Pajing and representatives including PROs from TK Engineering Consortium.

The DC while stating that natural disasters are sudden and can strike anywhere often without warning stressed on proper preparedness and planning to contain and effectively reduce the magnitude of damage and scale of loss in the event of any natural disaster or calamity.

Seeking explanation from the Highway Department and TK Engineering for the damage of the recently laid road and as to why no prior intimation was given despite preliminary signs of damage having been observed, he issued a number of directives and affixed responsibilities for all stakeholders in order to effect greater preparedness and a quicker and proactive response in the event of occurrence of any natural disaster or calamity. He implored all the participants to dedicatedly and sincerely work towards achieving these goals.

He directed Highway Department and T.K Engineering to work together in close coordination to survey, identify and notify high risk zones and landslide prone areas, identify early signs of damage and to maintain constant vigil in order to avert any catastrophic occurrence.

He directed the District Disaster Management Department to conduct awareness programmes with proper demonstrative methods and supporting videos in all villages of the district, set up awareness camps in villages and issue circulars on Do's and Dont's, preventive measures to be undertaken in the event of various natural disasters etc for greater outreach and better information dissemination.
