PASIGHAT, Oct 24: The Women Against Social Evils (WASE) today appealed and urged the Deputy Commissioner, East Siang to ban selling of alcohol during the 3 days Tani Festival being organized by Abo Tani Clan Organization (ATCO) commending from  October 25.
In a statement this evening, WASE General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong said that, the executive members of WASE, Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang and the festival organizers of Tani festival had held a joint meeting on Tuesday. In the meeting, the ATCO had also assured to follow and abide by the terms & conditions laid by the CDPYK which had granted permission for the said festival in the CDPYK premises. “Today we came to know that, some higher authorities from Itanagar are directing to allow the sale of alcohol in the festival defying the already agreed terms, " she added.
While appealing the Dy. Commissioner, Pasighat to ban the sale of any kind of alcohol while sticking with the terms & conditions as given by the CDPYK to the Tani festival organizers, WASE clarified that, such bans are being proposed  as  preventive measures because, open sale of alcohol leads to several problems.
