Aalo, Aug 13: Continuing with the efforts to ensure Tobacco Free Zones in schools, medical centres and government offices, District Tobacco Control Cell, Enforcement Squad and Head of Offices today reviewed the course of action under the chairmanship of West Siang Deputy Commissioner.
DC while stressing on initiating awareness campaigns at all levels by putting up hoardings on ban of tobacco products in local dialect in all sensitive locations, also instructed the Tax and Excise department to ban all ghumtis operating in different locations indulging in sale tobacco products. DMO Dr. Moli Riba stressed on the need for evolving a coordinated mechanism to implement the rule in all government institutions through Enforcement Squads and Flying Squads in the district.
Dr. J. Kato gave detail deliberations on COPTA Act 2003, campaigns launched so far in the district and declaration of Tobacco Free Zones through Power Point Presentation. Psychologist, DTCC Aalo Miti Gammeng elaborated on the role of civil society in checking the use of tobacco products in public places. Yomcha, Darak, General Hospital Aalo and Town Middle School had already been declared as Tobacco Free Zones of the district. DIPRO
