ITANAGAR, May 20:The District Administration in coordination with the District Police organized a mammoth coordination meeting between the Itanagar Traffic Wardens and the District. The Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan, highlighted that the meeting was for effective coordination between the traffic wardens and police to enforce traffic discipline and improve the efficiency of Traffic Wardens in the city.

It was decided that Traffic Wardens will be trained from June in a batch wise manner in the Police Training Center, Chimpur. Dhawan also announced increments in pay for the best performers among the traffic wardens as a morale booster. New uniforms for the traffic wardens were also launched in the event.

The Superintendent of Police, S. Khalsi presented a power point presentation on various modalities of traffic management.

Informing that double lane parking is banned throughout the City roads, he added that reserved Traffic wardens have been created as a mobile squad to move around the city for effective implementation of traffic management rules.

The mobile squad would tow the rule violating vehicles, lock the wheels and impose penalty as per the situation. The entire city has been divided into 7 zones for effective traffic management and placed under SDPO (Traffic), 5 zones under OC Traffic Itanagar and 2 zones for Naharlagun. Further, each zone has been placed under two police office of the State Police. The Traffic wardens can contact their zone police in-charge to issue challans and put tyre locks or tow wrongly parked cars.

The Deputy Commissioner has reiterated his appeal to citizens to obeying traffic rules as majority of the congestions are caused due to haphazard parking and multiple lane driving in the city.
