ITANAGAR, Feb 16: In a representation submitted to Chief Secretary Office, Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation on Friday has called for removal or immediate shifting of Shree Salasar Factory (SMS Smelter) established in the middle of Lekhi Village, Naharlagun, citing inconveniences caused to residents due to its smoke.
Highlighting the plight of the local people, it informed that the factory runs uninterruptedly for 24 hours emitting harmful and lethal smoke which is triggering unknown diseases including vomiting, nausea and even cancer among people living within the proximity of the factory.
Alleging violation of guidelines of the Factory Act, it also claimed that even domesticated animals are dying with various unknown diseases including crops.
It further urged the CS to initiate necessary action in shifting the factory far way from residential area while considering the threat to health of thousands of people living nearby.
