Itanagar, Jul 26: Chief Secretary of the state Satya Gopal today chaired the 5th State Level Committee on Solid Waste Management here at the Conference Hall at Civil Secretariat to review the progress of implementation of Environmental Rules in the state including Solid Waste Management Rules, Plastic Waste Management Rules and Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules in respect of the NGT case OA No. 606.
Secretary, Urban Development & Housing, Secretary, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board and Deputy Commissioners of the state attended the meeting. CS emphasized on proper treatment of Bio-medical wastes through the existing nine incinerators and improving the rest of the facilities. As per the recent NGT order in OA No.710, all Deputy Commissioners were directed to prepare District Environment Plans through the District Urban Development Agency, monitor its implementation every month and send monthly reports to the Chief Secretary.
A special invitee of NGT Apex Monitoring Committee for implementation of the Solid Waste Management, C. Srinivasan spoke about the “Garbage to Gold” concept in the implementation of Solid and Plastic Waste Management Rules. Srinivasan has also been engaged as a consultant for launching pilot Solid Waste Management project in the twin capitals.
All Deputy Commissioners were advised to send timely Annual Reports to SPCB for compliance of Solid Waste, Plastic Waste and Bio-medical Waste management Rules. PRO CS
