ITANAGAR, Sep 26: A meeting was held between Chief Secretary Satya Gopal and Sunil Kumar Tandon, Chief General Manager (CGM), North East Circle, State Bank of India, at Civil Secretariat here today.

In the meeting, issues like scarcity of staff in SBI branches, financial inclusion and credit deposit ratio were discussed.

The Chief Secretary raised the issue of shortage of staff in the bank’s branches in districts like Tirap, Changlang, Seppa, Namsai, etc. due to which the SBI was not able to depute required staff to set up camps at Sarkar Apke Dwar programmes to facilitate the public to open accounts for financial inclusion under Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, etc.

 

Stating that the government’s objective is to reach out to the poor and destitute, he said that considering various reasons including the topography of the region, it may not be possible to establish bank branches in some locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Therefore, implementation of POS Machines and Micro-ATMs in remote areas for easy access of bank services should be taken up on a time bound manner on priority basis, he told the CGM.

He also advised the SBI to direct the District Lead Bank officers to be pro-active and be in touch with the Deputy Commissioners. He also asked the banks for proper implementation of Prime Minister’s flagship schemes.

In the discussion the CGM Tandon assured posting of sufficient numbers of staff in the State.

He also assured to provide sufficient numbers of manpower in the various camps under Sarkar Apke Dwar provided the Bank (SBI) is informed by the concerned district authorities about the date and time well in advance.
