ITANAGAR, Jan 18: Chief Secretary Satya Gopal expressed the dire need to quantify financial awareness activities in all districts in order to educate innocent people of the fraudulent and money laundering activities that are being carried out by some nefarious persons or groups. He said this while addressing the Round 8 meeting of the State Level Co-ordination Committee (SLCC) for the State of Arunachal Pradesh on Regulation of the activities of Non-Banking Financial Companies and Un-incorporated Bodies in presence of Regional Director for North East States Reserve Bank of India, BK Mishra.
The RBI officials informed the house of several financial frauds like fraudulent phone calls, emails, messages, fictitious offers of opening bank kiosks, vishing racket in Jharkhand, fictitious insurance offer, CVC complaint against e-Bank Mitra India Pvt. Ltd., fraud and phishing in the name of PFRDA/NPS against which awareness is required.
Unless and until people are made aware of all the malpractices involving financial frauds they will always be duped, Chief Secretary stated.
Stating that Sarkar Apke Dwar will be one of the best platforms to reach out and disseminate the necessary awareness in far flung areas, the Chief Secretary recommended that the RBI could make proper utilisation of the services and opportunity of Sarkar Apke Dwar by setting up stalls during the camps.
To save innocent people from falling into financial frauds, let the awareness programme be a continuous exercise by which the people will be able to take precautionary measures, he advised.
If cases of financial frauds are reported, it should be brought to the notice of law enforcement authorities and accordingly action should be followed, he said.
Legislations, Orders, Notifications and latest developments of RBI should be made known to the SLCC through proper presentation, he further added.
Shiv Kumar Yadav, Deputy General Manager DNBS Reserve Bank of India, Dr. AC Verma Principal Secretary Home, DIGP Law, Commissioner Law and Order, Secretary Finance, SEBI representative etc were also present in the meeting.
