NAHARLAGUN, Oct 2: The All Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) has welcomed Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s open reprimand of the ‘commission system’ prevalent in the state’s Works Department.
In a press release issued today, AACWA has hoped that CM’s message will bring effect, cutting across Ministers, MLAs and all the departments of the state. The association said that heavy deduction of commission from the payments of the contractors has its direct negative repercussions on the quality and progress of works. Also, the pick and choose system in tenders drives the deprived contractors to file litigations which further slows down the pace of development in the state, the release added. While urging the contractors’ community to act with a broader sense and show sacrificing mentality at times of need, AACWA has also appealed the Chief Secretary to issue necessary direction to all the departments so that there is ground level implementation of the Chief Minister’s statement.
It can be recalled that CM while attending the BJP State Executive Meeting on Tuesday had publicly remarked that deduction of huge percentage as commission for release of payments to the contractors in the Works Department is illegal and needs to be discouraged. AACWA PR
