ITANAGAR, Jun 29: Alleging that many Fair Price shops in East Kameng district have failed in supplying the government-determined PDS items to the beneficiaries, Consumer Rights Organization (CRO) East Kameng unit has raised the demand to exert a strict vigilance over the PDS mechanism in the district.
Speaking to the reporters here at Press Club on Monday, CRO East Kameng Unit President Beku Dolo claimed that many people of the district are remaining deprived from getting the PDS items. “Many Fair Price shops in the district are failing to supply these items to the beneficiaries and some of them are also being sold in open market with exorbitant prices,” Dolo said.
As per the PDS quota, rice is supposed to reach the beneficiaries under three categories- General Household @13 Rs per kg and AAY and PHS @ Rs 3 per kg. But according to the CRO, most of the time these items are remaining out of access for the district’s genuine beneficiaries. Dolo further alleged that subsidized kerosene supplied by the concerned department never reaches the beneficiaries. “While the government has determined the kerosene price as Rs 18.36 per litre, the same oil is sold in the market at an exorbitant price of Rs 100 per litre,” Dolo informed, adding that in 2019 East Kameng received at least 37,100 kilo litres of kerosene.
To check the irregularities, the CRO has demanded an immediate formation of a Vigilance Committee along with initiation of a Social Audit under the Arunachal Pradesh Food Security Act (APFSA) 2015 and strict adherence to Section 10 of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Distribution System Order 2016 by all the district’s Fair Price shops.
“We have already submitted a memorandum to the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner seeking his intervention,” President CRO-East Kameng informed.
