ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The Congress workers led by its President, Takam Sanjoy with the support of other Opposition parties on Saturday organized a peaceful dharna outside the Raj Bhawan in protest against non-fulfillment of their demands.
Earlier, Opposition parties had announced while submitting a memorandum to the Governor seeking ouster of Chief Minister, Pema Khandu that they would jointly hold dharna if their demands are not fulfilled within March 8.
Addressing reporters, APCC, President Takam Sanjoy while referring to the devastation caused due to violence triggered by PRC issue has alleged that the present BJP government had turned the State into a symbol of oppression and injustice.
The APCC chief felt that if the BJP government had withdrawn its announcement to grant PRC to Non-APST populace early than precious lives could have been saved.
He also clarified about video footage doing rounds in social networking sites which shows him supporting PRC to Non –APST, saying that “the content in the video was maliciously edited by someone to defame him and blame him for the entire PRC violence.”
Stating that the video is a truncated portion of a longer video, Sanjoy also informed that the portion of the video where he mentioned: “PRC shouldn’t be given to Non-APST was chopped off by the creator and then presented in an entirely different context.”
He urged people not to believe in such unverified content.
Earlier a video of Sanjoy addressing an election campaign in Lekang area where he is seen supporting granting of PRC to Non-APST had gone viral in social media, drawing widespread criticism.
In his address, Former CM, Gegong Apang exhorted people to vote only deserving candidates to public office who owe their allegiance to voters rather than to private interests. He also said that PRC issue is purely politically motivated by few to garner the support of few sections of the populace.
Senior Congress leader, Jarjum Ete also spoke on the occasion.
