ITANAGAR, May 26:
While the state government today celebrated completion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 4-years in office with huge pomp and show, on other hand the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) observed the day as ‘Vishwasghat Divas’ or ‘Betrayal Day’ to highlight the failures of the BJP-led government at the Centre and state.
In connection with the observance, the APCC held a protest rally from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan to Tennis Court near Indira Gandhi Park and burnt effigies of BJP leaders which was followed by speech by frontal heads on various challenging issues being faced by the country.
Later addressing a press conference in the evening, AICC secretary in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr K Jayakumar in his address termed the day as ''painful completion'' of four years of the Modi government.
Jayakumar, who is visiting the state to oversee the preparation of the protest, described the Modi government as most corrupt government ever formed and accused the BJP for destroying the country’s democracy and for betraying peoples’ aspirations across the country.
He said that the "Vishwasghat Divas" was observed to highlight the failure of pre-poll promises and mis-governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government at the Centre as well as in states.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not fulfill any of his pre-poll tall promises including two crore jobs per year to the youths,” Dr Jayakumar pointed out.
He stated that no one is happy under his (Modi) governance as everyone is filled with anger and frustration today due to unemployment, rising atrocities against women, hike in fuel and commodity prices etc.
Also talking about black money, he alleged that inspite of bringing back their unaccounted money amounting to Rs 80 lakh crore stashed abroad, the Centre is protecting the corrupt and scamsters like Lalit Modi, Vijay Malya, Nirav Modi and others.
“The demonetization introduced by the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has caused severe damage to the country’s economy. Bank credit is almost nil and lowest in the last 63 years,” he asserted.
Commenting on BJP’s zero tolerance on corruption, Dr Jayakumar said, unlike Congress party, who had never spared anyone involved in scams or corruption activities, the BJP is backing the corrupt as most of the leaders in the party are involved in high level of corruptions.
Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki also criticized the BJP government over its alleged failure to fulfill the aspirations of people of Arunachal Pradesh.
“In the last four years the BJP government in the Centre as well as state made lots of commitments, promises and announcements, but in the end miserably failed to fulfill any of its promises,” he added.
The former CM also said that the people of entire northeast region are still waiting as no significant development has been initiated for its development despite slogan of Act East policy.
Lashing out at central government for allegedly taking away certain programmes and policies benefitting the northeastern states, Tuki also said that the planning commission was better than Niti Aayog as it used to support the states in many different ways.
On employment status of the state, Tuki lamented “There is no industry in the state and few surviving small industries are on the verge of closing down as government has discontinued the subsidies such as transport subsidy owing to which many youths are becoming jobless.”
APYC spokesperson Arjun Panye questioned the government for delaying the Panchayati Raj election and stated that “BJP should stop fooling the people”.
