ITANAGAR, Jun 3:Governor BD Mishra will be attending the two-day 49th conference of Governors and Lt. Governors onJune 4-5 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will preside over the conference, the second such conference after assuming office.
The Governor’s Conference, in Independent India, started in 1949 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. It was first presided over by C. Rajagopalachari, the first Indian Governor General of India.
The current conference has on its agenda many important thematic issues for discussion. The conference will commence with the inaugural address by the President of India followed by presentations, on Government of India flagship programmes, by the Vice Chairman and the CEO of Niti Aayog and briefing by National Security Advisor on internal security and national security. The highlight of this session will be the address by the Prime Minister.
In the third session, presentations will be made by the Secretary, Higher Education and the Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion on higher education in state universities and skill development for employability.
In the fourth session, Governors and Lt. Governors will discuss steps taken on the report “Rajyapal – Vikas Ke Rajdoot: Catalytic Role of Governors as Agents for Change in Society”.
On June 5, in the fifth session, Governors will discuss modalities for the commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which will include presentations on Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and Swachhata Internship.
Presentations on the deliberations in the previous thematic sessions will be made by the convenor Governors. The Conference will culminate with the concluding address by the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Home Minister and the External Affairs Minister.
