Itanagar, Jan 20: The 3-day Community Radio Awareness workshop organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GoI in partnership with Seeking Modern Applications For Real Transformation (SMART) commenced today here at a private hotel.
Director, Regional Bureau of Outreach and Communications for Arunachal Pradesh, MIB, GoI Dr Keshav Murthy inaugurated the workshop. Founder Director of a community radio in Haryana, Radio Mewat and SMART NGO Archana Kapoor said it was overwhelming to learn about the 45 participants cutting across diverse tribes and sub-tribes speaking over 50 distinct dialects from almost all districts of Arunachal. Director of CRS, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) GS Kesarwani while emphasizing the importance of community radio stations, stated the ministry’s commitment to walk through the process of getting licenses, supporting establishment and engaging with local communities in establishing and running community radio stations. The purpose of this workshop which is 82nd by the ministry and second to be organised in state is to popularize and familiarize more organizations, including NGOs, academic institutions, Krishi Vigyan Kendras etc. about the process and potential of community radio in empowering people, he added.
Lokam Tatung from Tarhuk Samaj said Community Radio can play a powerful role in preserving the varied cultures and dialects of the state. The participants also visited ‘Radio City Community’ radio station run by Tarhuk Samaj NGO where they were given exposure to equipment and technical aspects related with the running of a station.
