RONO HILLS, Sep 19: The committee constituted to demarcate the land donated for establishment of Rajiv Gandhi University during 1985, on Wednesday claimed several anomalies in the recently constructed boundary wall of the University. Breach of Government notification and tampering of the old map has also been alleged.

The committee which consists of land donors and university officials said this today during a meeting here in the varsity’s guest house after spot verification was made in the encroachment-affected areas of the University.

AAPSU Vice President (Protocol) Dr Tayuk Sonam who represented the apex students’ body said, “It is confirmed that a lot of land has been compromised due to encroachment by some individuals for their personal gain. The actual land donors who are here today as the committee members have made it even more clear that the boundary wall construction is also in an unpredictable situation. AAPSU will press for reclaiming every inch of RGU’s land for this cannot be sidelined. A prominent institute like RGU will need more space in the future too, to establish more departments and develop human resource; AAPSU will never compromise on this”.

The assessment of the actual land measurement was carried out under the supervision of Doimukh Sub Divisional Officer Ibom Tao, staffers from Land Management department Papumpare, Land donors Nabam Darmo, Techi Gombu and Tana Tabo.

Senior Security Officer of RGU Badal Techi, RGUSU President Giogi Aja, RGURSF IPR Prem Taba, RGUEA President Solung Sonam and representatives of Doimukh Students’ Union also took part in the day-long spot verification.

An official meeting in this regard is scheduled on Thursday at the SDO's office to examine and determine the further actions.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of RGU had put a halt on the ongoing boundary wall construction when the AAPSU and RGUSU picked up land grabbing issue with the authority.
