 ITANAGAR, Mar 22: The Health Research unit of the Directorate of Medical Education, Training & Research conducted a sitting of the Institutional Ethical Committee wherein deliberation on two research proposals took place: The biology of drug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis at the molecular level, set to be conducted by Dr. Mika Umpo (Microbiologist) through multi-institutional collaboration such as AIIMS & International Centre for Genetics Engineering & Biotechnology, New Delhi. The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among the ethnic population of Arunachal Pradesh, undertaken by Dr. Gomi Basar (Biochemist) with collaboration with another hospital. 

Taking note of the importance to foster research activities in the State, Dr. T Kaki, a member of the committee suggested that such meeting may be held as and when proposal is submitted and requested member secretary, Dr. Nabam Peter to encourage potential researchers through the dissemination of knowledge on different aspects of research methodology. 

The Institutional Ethical Committee chaired by Dr. KK Dey of RKM hospital, Dr. S Nath, and Dr. B Tayeng among others was formed to ensure a competent review of all ethical aspects for research projects in the State. The members comprise of a mix of medical as well as non-medical members to represent an accumulated group.
