Itanagar, Jun 1: In view of the increasing reports of fake news especially during this Covid-19 pandemic, a Fakecheck committee under the Chairmanship of Deputy Director, IPR, Denhang Bosai has been constituted by the Department of Information and Public Relations. The committee's first meeting was held in the Office Chamber of Secretary IPR, Himanshu Gupta. He expressed concern over the inundation of fake news, especially in social media and asked the committee members to ensure the filtration of news.
Gupta also asked the members to give rebuttal at the earliest to prevent such fake news from spreading further and suggested that fake news of serious and sensitive nature should be reported to the Police.
The committee shall devote a minimum of 1 hour every evening to find out fake posts and articles that may, through its nature, incite violence or hatred amongst the public. DIPRO
