ITANAGAR, Mar 4: With no choice left, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has resorted to go ahead with its state-wide shutdown of higher level educational institutes. A ‘fed up’ AAPSU on Saturday had announced its first phase of agitation against the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The closure of all the colleges and institutions within the state has been called in aid of the protesting students of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).
Students at NERIST have been demanding for appointment of a full-time director.
With clamour and tenacity, over two thousand students of the institute have taken to passive resistance, since the last five days. The resistance movement at NERIST got a major upliftment with all the student based organizations supporting their agitation movement.
AAPSU’s Vice President (Admin) Meje Taku today appealed to the authorities of all the colleges and varsities to extend their cooperation for the strike as the protest that begun at NERIST is no longer confined to it, but has become an issue that concerns the reputation of the state.
Taku has also urged the district based student bodies and institute based student leaders to observe a peaceful strike.
