RONO HILLS, Apr 6:The Centre for National Security Studies (CNSS), Rajiv Gandhi University, organised its first National Seminar on “Issues and Challenges of National Security in North-East India” today.

 The seminar was graced by Air Marshal (Retd.) Pranab Kumar Barbora, the Chancellor Rajiv Gandhi University as Chief Guest. Eminent Professor Tridib Chakraborti, Retired Professor Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University, Kolkata delivered the Key Note Address. 

In his inaugural speech, Professor Tomo Riba, Registrar (i/c), RGU highlighted the background and importance of setting up the Centre of National Security Studies in the university. Professor PK Panigrahi, Vice-Chancellor (i/c) delivered speech on various concerns of the nation in general and north eastern region in particular.

Air Marshal (Retd.) Pranab Kumar Barbora shared his experiences candidly and brought up several issues and challenges before the august gathering. Prof.Tridib Chakraborti in his keynote address spoke elaborately on the various security challenges of the Country with much impetus on the north eastern region. He emphasized on the development of the region as the first priority and categorically stressed on overcoming the connectivity bottlenecks. It was also pointed out by Prof. Chakraborti that any developmental policy has to be people centric and the CNSS, RGU has to be a vibrant centre to locate the issues in right earnest. 

Dr. Sunil Nandi and Gomar Basar were the co-ordinator of the seminar. Around a dozen research papers were presented in the seminar. Dr. PK Nayak delivered vote of thanks on behalf of the seminar organising committee.
