ITANAGAR, Apr 26:Chief Minister Pema Khandu today launched the opening of Arunachal Cable Communication that will provide HD digital cable TV connection. He also launched a new English daily ‘The Arunachal Herald’. 
 
Speaking at the function, the Chief Minister said the launch of digital cable services will boost media entrepreneurs to go for local news and entertainment channels in a state where such media have fewer presence.
 
Also lauding the opening of a new English daily, the Chief Minister urged on the need to promote and support media industry in the state as they act as the eyes and ears of the government. He also welcomed constructive criticism from the media that would help the government to govern better.
For the welfare of media fraternity, the CM informed that Rs. 3.5 crore has been announced in the budget for creating infrastructure facilities of Arunachal Press Club in Itanagar. For Welfare of working journalists, he informed that enhancement in corpus fund has been made from Rs 1 crore to Rs. 2 crore. For completion of Soochna Bhawan, Rs. 4 crore is earmarked. He also informed on the recent cabinet decision to have state’s own advertisement policy.
 
The Chief Minister also informed on plans to develop about 100 smart villages in Arunachal. He informed that in his recent visit to US, he met Solomon Darwin, American professor at the University of California, Berkeley who is known for his development of "smart village" frameworks for Indian villages. With support from the University and collaboration from state government, in phase manner smart villages will be developed across the state. He said it requires no heavy investment and will hugely benefit the local youths through skill development and job opportunities.
