ITANAGAR, May 9: Chief Minister Pema Khandu through a DO letter has formally thanked Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and his team Indian Railways for launching the Shatabdi Express from Naharlagun, laying of the Foundation Stone for the Murkongselek- Pasighat BG Railway line and announcing of the commencement surveys of 7 new lines in Arunachal Pradesh in addition to the surveys already announced for strategic lines connecting Tawang, Aalo and Parasuramkund with a target for completion of all these surveys by December 2018.

“With negligible rail network in the state till 2015 when the Hon’ble Prime Minister flagged off the first train from Naharlagun, yesterday was another historic moment for the State as it would open numerous opportunities for economic development. On completion of these projects, the rail connectivity in the State would increase to about 700 KM. This will provide a fillip to the agriculture, horticulture and other activities including tourism as the State of Arunachal Pradesh with lush green forests, breathtaking landscapes and numerous tourist destinations will witness surge in tourist flow,” the letter added further.

While assuring State Government’s all necessary support for the successful completion of these rail lines in the state, Khandu informed that the State Government has designated the Transport Department of the State as the Nodal Department with Commissioner (Transport) being the Nodal Officer (Single Point of Contact) for all matters relating to railways in the State.
