PASIGHAT, Sep 11: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today dedicated Arunachal’s first Sainik School to the people of the state here at Niglok.
The occasion was also attended by Deputy CM Chowna Mein, State BJP President Tapir Gao, Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Health Minister Alo Libang, advisor to CM Lombo Tayeng, Lok Sabha MP (East) Ninong Ering including Major General Bhaskar Kalita, Sainik School Principal Lt Col Ashok and other dignitaries.
The school started its first academic session this year with 60 students selected from all over Arunachal and rest of the country.
The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for granting three Sainik Schools for the state. He said with today’s inauguration, the decision for location of other two Sainik Schools will be decided with a due consultation to cover the eastern and western belt of the state.
He said the state rightfully deserves Sainik Schools as Arunachali people are known for their patriotism, which is exemplified through greetings of ‘Jai Hind’ by the locals for the Jawans guarding the borders. He also said the opening of Sainik Schools will provide an opportunity for the youths of state to pursue a career in Armed forces and other prestigious professions.
Khandu congratulated the first batch of the students and appreciated the role of Principal of Sainik School, Goalpara Captain Edwin Jothirajan for his hard effort on the ground for the early establishment of the school.
He also thanked Deputy Chief Minister for taking great efforts in finalising the allotment of land of 100 acres for the school by undertaking field visits and successfully liaising with different govt departments.
The CM said the school is at present functioning from its temporary building and assured support for additional infrastructure requirement for a hostel and academic buildings. He also promised to start the work for a school building in the permanent site this year and to complete it within three years.
Earlier in his speech, the Deputy Chief Minister said that no stone will be left unturned in providing infrastructure support for successfully running the school.
Education Minister, Maj General Kalita and Secretary Education Madhurani Teotia also spoke on the occasion.
