KALAKTANG, Sep 12: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today attended the closing ceremony of the first foundation day celebration of Monpa Mimang Tshokpa (MMT).
Speaking to the delegates from all over the Mon region, Khandu appreciated the 3-day deliberations held during the meet and welcomed the vision put by MMT on way forward for the organization to work for the good cause of the Monpa society. While appreciating Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and Adi Baane Kebang (ABK), the apex bodies of Nyishi and Adi respectively for adopting schools and ensuring education as their primary goal, CM said such examples should be replicated by all CBOs. He requested the MMT to at least adopt one school in each zone ie Kalaktang, Dirang and Tawang for upkeeping the school, ensuring quality education and properly monitoring the school activities. He also spoke on the recent government reforms, infrastructure development, communications etc.
Chief Minister said the need for an apex body of Monpa community was felt for a long time that could represent the interest of the community in various fora. He congratulated the achievers of the community who were earlier felicitated and presented with citations. The achievers included Padmashree Thegtse Rinpoche, Padmashree Lama Phuntsok, Kuten Passang Tsering, Yeshi Tsering IAS, Everester Anshu Janshempa, SSB DIG retd Sonam Yudron, IGP Tashi Lama IPS and Grammy nominee Lama Nawang Tashi Bapu.
While mentioning that Monpas are known for their good behaviour and peace loving nature, he urged MMT to play pro-active role in preserving such culture and traditions. Responding to a public memorandum, CM assured to sanction for construction of a multipurpose cultural hall of 1500 seating capacity which would be named as Khandro Drowa Zangmo Multipurpose Cultural Hall along with building of an alternate defence road from Kalaktang to Domkho via Sanglem and Morshing.
Earlier, the occasion began with a recitation of ‘Monpa Kul Geeth’ composed by Dr Rikya Lhavor Rinpoche. Later the Chief Minister was felicitated along with 7 others by the MMT for being a high achiever in the community along with a presentation of citation.
A souvenir of Lhagyala Management Trust was also released by the CM. Chairman DoKA Jambey Wangdi, MLAs Phurpa Tsering, Tsering Tashi, Jambey Tashi and Dorjee Wangdi Karma also spoke on the occasion. CMO
