ITANAGAR, May 1: “Kaani: A film on opium”, a documentary based on Opium was released today by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The documentary was initiated by the District Administration, Longding as a part of the drug awareness campaign in the district. The documentary captures the effects of Opium on the Wancho society of Longding district. Longding district is infested with opium addiction problems and the documentary is an attempt to create mass awareness about the drug and its destructive effects.

Khandu congratulated the District Administration, Longding for their efforts and hoped that the documentary would bring about some positive change in the outlook of the people. He also appealed to the people of Longding to stop growing and using Opium.

“Our government is very focussed on development of the state in all aspects. Problems like opium addiction targets the human resources which is the key to all development processes. It’s the responsibility of every educated person to create awareness about social problems so that our state could continue to function progressively,” he said.

A special screening of the Documentary was also held at the Chief Secretary’s conference hall. The screening was attended by all Heads of Departments, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
