SEPPA, Mar 28: Setting example for others, villagers and administration of Bana under East Kameng district today came together to protect the biodiversity. Hundreds of villagers led by Gaon Burahs’ under the umbrella of Bana Richukrong Social Development Organization (BRSDO) today join hands to refrain exploitation of Bochum River.

‘Recently on March 18 last after reports of diversion of water by NEEPCO to have trial run on Buchum Hydro project surfaced in the area, many people used chemicals and other toxic materials in the river for fishing due  which river Bochum got polluted in Bana area,’ informed President BRDSO Chatung Sopung.

Chatung further appealed the NEEPCO official to set up advance alarming system in Bana area to avoid any untoward incident.

Circle Officer, Bana,  Puna Sonam Natung  informed that message has been sent to the NEEPCO official through telephone and official  mail has also been sent to the concern officers of NEEPCO to take necessary measures before going for any testing in the Bochum Hydro Project.  She further appealed the people to protect biodiversity  and avoid using any kind of chemical or other toxic  materials for fishing in the river.
