ITANAGAR, Oct 3: A Children’s Science Park, the first of its kind in Arunachal Pradesh, was set up at Govt. Secondary School Joram and was dedicated to the students by CD Mungyak, Director cum Member Secretary, AP State Council for Science & Technology on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued here today, young children can come closer to the nature and play with specially designed exhibits placed aesthetically in the natural surroundings in the park. While playing, students can also learn the basic principles of science. In this park one can find exhibits on mechanics, sound, pendulum, etc. Students can learn about the mighty dinosaur T-Rex, when they lived on earth, what they ate and their size, etc.
In his inaugural address, Mungyak said the park was set up with a motto to promote ‘edutainment’ i.e. education with entertainment. Science can be better understood by experience. Describing the importance of hands on approach, he said this methodology was inspired by a Chinese proverb: “Tell me I will forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.”
The exhibits of the Science Park were developed by AP Science Centre. The officers present were, S R Kochi, Deputy Director (Admin), Neelam Tath (OSD to Chairman), AP State Council for Science & Technology, Vivek Kumar, Curator, AP Science Centre and technical team comprising Khoda Yader, Neelam Yadi, Neelam Maj, Omo Polo and John Tayeng.
Joram Hina, Head Master, Govt. Secondary School, Joram, SMC Joram Taje, contractor Neech Tangam of NT Enterprises, teachers and students of the school were present on the occasion. A plantation programme was also conducted to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.
