ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Children’s Day was observed all across Arunachal today with the singular message of ushering in a conducive environment necessary of transforming the children into able citizens of the state and nation.
In Raj Bhavan’s Darbar Hall, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) celebrated the occasion with differently abled students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu and students from various Government Schools of Capital Complex.
First Lady, Neelam Misra, State Education Minister, Er. Taba Tedir and Commissioner to Governor R.P. Upadhyay also attended the programme. Governor said that Children’s Day is a day of introspection for parents and guardians and review whether they are providing the correct education and living standard to their children. While appealing the students to become useful citizens of the nation, he also advised the parents to prepare themselves first with necessary resources before bringing a child to earth. Speaking about the need for education and timely vaccinations, Governor said that state government has also a responsibility towards the well-being of the children by taking care of their education and health and highlighted the need to check encroaching of school lands. In this regard he advised the State Education Minister to initiate action against the encroachers and recover school lands along with streamlining the ‘Mid-Day Meal’ scheme. Education Minister who also addressed the children, advised them to maintain cleanliness and preserve the state’s flora and fauna.
A colour traditional cultural programme with the spirit of patriotism, preservation and protection of flora and fauna and rich cultural heritage of the state was presented by the students.
Later, accompanied by Education Minister, Governor visited the Government Primary School, Raj Bhavan, B-Sector and advised him about the further improvements necessary for the school. Reiterating the need for improving the state’s education scenario with special focus on elementary education, Governor said it is also necessary to cover the remote areas of the state as well.
Children’s Day was observed by Zgang Depga, a Jigaon based NGO in West Kameng as an annual Inter-School Quiz Competition Day in collaboration with Eagle Nest Wildlife Sanctuary, Shergaon Forest Division today at Jigaon Cultural Hall.
Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop seemingly impressed by the large numbers of girls participating in the quiz competition urged them to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of excellence. “Commitment, diligence, hard work and focus takes one to places,” she said and assured of conducting district level quiz competition under CMSSY very soon. For balanced growth and development of students, sports kits and equipment were gifted to the NGO by the District Administration. After a gruelling two-hour of quizzing, Government Residential School, Jigaon came out as the winner and Zgang Academy as the Runner’s up leaving behind GHSS Rupa, VKV Shergaon, Sambhoda Tibetan School, GHSS Singchung and KV Singchung in the race. Among others, ADC Rupa S Gurung, CO A Kri and Principal i/c GHSS Rupa attended the programme.
In Upper Siang District, the day was celebrated at Government Middle School Millang with Deputy Commissioner Taper Pada and DDSE D. Tayeng attending the occasion.
Meanwhile in  Roing, Children’s Day also coincided with the opening ceremony of the first ever “CHILDLINE Se Dosti” weeklong celebration which was inaugurated at
CHILDLINE’s head office cum AMYAA NGO Office by ADC Roing Tipak Pertin in the presence of Director of CHILDLINE Roing R. K. Paul Chawang, school teachers, CHILDLINE Team and students from various schools.
This campaign will continue till November 20, jointly supported by Ministry of Women and Child Development through CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) and NHPC Limited, Roing. It is a national campaign which aims to make ordinary citizens stakeholders in CHILDLINE 1098 through a range of events and activities for children in need of care and protection.
