TEZU, Nov 24: The first of its kind ‘State Level Indigenous Sports & Games Meet, 2018’  got underway here in a glittering opening ceremony at the Jubilee Ground today amidst traditional and sportive spirit. The meet was organized by the Arunachal Vikash Parishad (AVP). 
Sports & Youths Affairs Minister Dr Mohesh Chai graced the occasion as chief guest. “Our youths have tremendous potential and this kind of platform would hunt and explore the hidden talent in the district level,” the minister said and added that in the recently held first North- East Olympic Games at Imphal, boys and girls of Arunachal performed well and brought 10 gold medals making the state third in the medal tally which was historic.

Citing examples of Hima Das, athletic, Limba Ram, Archery, Mary Kom and Sarita Devi in boxing, the Minister encouraged the youth to work hard by keeping away from drugs and other anti-social elements to shine like them.  “The new government in Arunachal Pradesh has embarked on a new mission for the overall development of games and sports in hosting and organizing various events including state level badminton, Karate – Do, Football, Table Tennis, etc including infrastructure development to promote sports events in Arunachal,” he said.

Guest of honour, BC Das, DSO Sports and Youth Affairs Lohit district, Jabralum Chaitom and Bakhirm Chikro, president & Secretary, organizing committee AVP also spoke on the occasion.    


Highlighting the history Indigenous Sports & Games which started in 1988, Techi Gubin, President AVP said that the Parishad has been encouraging tribal youth who could not compete with the mainland and facilitating opportunity to participate them at state and national level.  
Overall 200 youths from 20 districts are eagerly participating in the three-day State Level Indigenous Sports & Games meet that started on November 23The youths are taking part in athletics and archery during the meet.
