ITANAGAR, Jan 22: Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sunil Arora, was informed about the latest status of election preparedness of Arunachal Pradesh by Chief Secretary Satya Gopal in a video conference today.
The CEC and Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa in a meeting through video conference with all the Chief Secretaries, DGPs, and CEOs of eastern states sought status reports in connection with the ongoing preparations on the ensuing elections.
Transfer posting of officers and officials as per the directives of Election Commission of India in both administrative and Police departments have been taken into account, the CS informed.
The Chief Secretary also committed to post sufficient administrative officers within the first week of February in few districts with severe shortages of officers. Transfer of very few left out senior administrative and Police officers in Home Districts will be done immediately, he informed.
The CS also informed that proposal for appointment of Election Observers comprising of IAS, IPS, IFS officers, and Nodal officers under various categories has also been sent to the ECI.
He further informed that sufficient budget for conducting elections and for law and order has been prepared.
Chief Secretary submitted before the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India that the State would require 60 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in the State to conduct peaceful and successful election in the State.
He further informed that expenditure sensitive constituencies have also been identified and measures will be taken accordingly to check illegalities.
The CS also submitted before the CEC some of the specific challenges like foot march to far flung polling stations, communication bottlenecks, and border with Assam and Myanmar as major hurdles for free and fair election.
To check infiltration and unwanted activities from neighbouring State and Myanmar, CS emphasized on strengthening of surveillance in Indo-Myanmar border and neighbouring State of Assam.
Chief Election Commissioner of India sought weekly progress report on the election preparedness of the State.
Director General of Police SBK Singh, Principal Secretary Home Dr. AC Verma, Chief Election Officer KalingTayeng, IGP Sunil Garg, DIG K. Kaming, link Commissioner (Tax & Excise) NT Glow were also present during the video conference with the Chief Election Commissioner of India and Election Commissioner. PRO
