ITANAGAR, Mar 23: Flying squads and static surveillance teams (SST) with the help of police monitoring the enforcement of Model Code of conduct (MCC) have seized more than 1 crore in cash from various parts of the state.
Of this, the highest seizures were made by Tirap police from Tissa area, Longding district to the tune of 34.90 lakhs on March 19 which was followed by another major seizure of 14.45 lakhs in cash by Nirjuli police.
This was informed by Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Kangki Darang on Saturday. Darang also informed that they have referred three cases to Income Tax (IT) involving about 60 lakhs for further investigation about its source and destination.
"The police, flying squads and SSTs are keeping strict vigils of illegal cash movement and liquor in all districts to ensure a free & fair election,” Darang added.
Giving further details about the seizure, SP Capital Complex, Tumme Amo informed that the capital police including SST have seized 42.62 lakhs so far within the jurisdiction of the capital complex itself and during the last 24 hours has seized Rs 5, 35, 000 and Rs 6, 92, 000 in two separate naka checkings.
"In addition, more than one thousand pieces of palm plate, 18 daos, 58 pieces of local ornaments and 44 posters were also removed from various places in twin capitals,” SP informed.
Meanwhile, a source from police headquarters told this daily that so far a sum of Rs 1 crore 41 lakhs was confiscated and 3 (.32)revolvers, 9 air guns, 695 daos/knifes, 735 grams of opium, 20577 litres of various liquor brands etc were seized from various parts of the state so far.
