PASIGHAT, May 10:  In an effort launched by student unions to check the illegal sale of FCI rice in open market, the members of Adi Students’ Union, All Bogong Students Union (E) and East Siang District Students’ Union jointly swooped on a shop in Sawmill area openly selling FCI rice and a case has been registered against the shop and Fair Price Shop on Tuesday.

According to AdiSU General Secretary, Buteng Tayeng and ABSU (E) President, Lungkang Ering, they checked the shops after getting numerous complaints by the poor and needy about open selling of subsidized FCI rice in the open market.

“Though we couldn’t catch many red handed, almost all the shops dealing with rice and grocery items are selling such subsidized rice supposed to be distributed among the poor and needy people,” added Tayeng. While ABSU (E) President, Lungkang Ering has asked for cancellation of licenses of those erring Fair Price Shops who are openly selling those subsidized rice to shops. 5 bags of FCI rice each 50 kgs were seized from a shop at 2 mile Sawmil area and Panggam FPS was responsible for selling the rice to the shop.

In a letter to DC, Pasighat, ABSU (E) has sought for stern action against all those guilty and has also appealed the concern authorities to cancel the licenses of those Fair Price Shops which has been issued in the name of kith and kins of officers who are allegedly giving those licenses to second and third parties on rent which maximizes the cases of illegalities in the look out of more returns. In this connection a case has been registered against the erring shops and FPS vide Pasighat PS case No. 72/2017 U/S 381/408//409/411 IPC.
