ITANAGAR, Jul 12: Going tough against corruption, Capital Police suspended its own officer for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs. 40,000 from an accused as bribe on Friday.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Complex Tumme Amo has suspended one lady Assistant Sub-Inspector who is the Investigation Officer of an accident case Ita PS case No 102/19.
Disclosing more about the case, SP added a complaint was received from an accused of the accident that the lady officer demanded an amount for granting him bail. "She made him believe that it was a non-bailable offense, whereas it was a bailable offense,” added Amo.
According to the accused, he was taking his wife to a hospital in his vehicle on April 24 last but on the way, there was some defect in the brake of the vehicle. So, he drove his vehicle to a garage near Arunodaya Higher Secondary, H Sector for repairing. While entering the garage, the vehicle hit two mechanics of the garage. Subsequently, the owner of the garage lodged a complaint in Itanagar Police Station.
Following the complaint, the said Lady ASI was detailed as the Investigating Officer of the case. 
“We should be free of such practices and then only we can take action and tell others not to indulge in such practices,” added the SP.
