ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The Capital police on Saturday detained one Montu Baishya in the wake of an FIR against him by the office of the Executive Engineer, Capital Electrical Division, Itanagar for his involvement in tampering and bypassing of Pre Paid Energy Meters (PPEM).
This is the third such case of the Capital Electrical Division identifying and facilitating arrest of government officials involved in tampering and bypassing of PPEMs, within a span of a week.
Baishya is a wireman and electrician under the Arunachal Police Housing & Welfare Corporation Limited, Police Headquarters (PHQ) here and is being accused of tampering and bypassing 42 PPEMs installed in the staff quarters at Group Centre, IRBN Complex, Chimpu.
Executive engineer Joram Lali informed that his department officials has physically verified the tampered and bypassed PPEMs during site inspection for construction of 2 x 2.5 MVA, 33/11 kV Sub-Station in and around Chimpu. He added that as per the consumers, Baishya used to take Rs 200 from each consumer as the cost of tempering and bypassing PPEMs.
Lali in the FIR has also expressed apprehension that Baishya must have been involved in such illegal activities in many other locations of government quarters including private residences, which has resulted in huge government revenue losses.
The executive engineer has further appealed to the police for a detail investigation on the matter to find out the nexus of more people involved in these illegal activities, including consumers.
