ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Capital Police has solved the Malabar Hotel Ganga robbery case and arrested the main accused.
Earlier, an FIR was received from the caretaker of the hotel that an unidentified person entered the hotel during the closure time on March 9, 2019 and fled with a cash of around Rs.62, 000 by brandishing a pistol. According to the FIR, the man also barged into the hotel kitchen and assaulted the staffers including the manager without any provocation at gunpoint. A case was registered vide Ita/PS/Case no. 67/2019 u/s-392 IPC r/w Sec-27 Arms Act and handed over to SI G. Arangham for investigation under close monitoring by Capital SP, T Amo.
During the investigation, police collected the CCTV footage but could not identify the person. However, the footage revealed that the accused came in a Chevrolet car and on further investigation it was revealed that the car is registered in the name of one T Tagio. When contacted, he told police said he sold his car to a second-hand car dealer in Pappu Nalah, who further confirmed that the said car was bought by one Santo Flago (30yrs), hailing from Pippu Chayangtajo, East Kameng and presently residing at Papu Nalah in Naharlagun.
After identifying the accused, police carried several search operations but all efforts went in vain as the accused constantly managed to shift locations along with changing the mobile numbers. Finally, following the information received from one of the local sources that Flago is hiding at a rented apartment at Chimpu-1, a team led by OC, Itanagar PS, M.Geyi conducted a raid and successfully nabbed him from the rented house located near the Jully road tri-junction.
Upon the disclosure made by Flago, Capital police recovered a plastic-made toy pistol that was used in the robbery from a dumping area in the backyard of the rented house where he was taking refuge in the Chimpu, Forest Corp Colony earlier.
