ITANAGAR, Jan 30: In a major breakthrough, Capital Police busted vehicle theft racket and recovered at least 12 SUVs from different parts of the Capital Complex.
Speaking to media persons, Superintendent of Police, Tumme Amo disclosed that information about the racket was with Police for many months but we had to wait for proper information.  Since January 22 last we have recovered 12 stolen SUVs including nine Toyota Fortuners and two Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and one Hyundai Creta.
SP further added that four people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in vehicle theft. However, he denied disclosing the names of the vehicle owners and the name of forge dealers, stating the investigation is still on and more people are yet to be arrested.
After getting an input from sources that some unknown person are entering Capital with fake registration number, police team led by Deputy SP(SDPO),S Sikom along with a team of Police ASI  AK Jha,SI N Nishant under the supervision of SP capital and ASP Harsh Indora swiftly worked on the plan. Subsequently, on January 22 last, two vehicles from Hollongi check gate were seized and on disclosure other remaining vehicles were recovered, informed the SP.
Stating that the buyers of the second and third-hand vehicles from forge dealer can be equally charged under the 411 IPC with a minimum of 3 years imprisonment, he appealed the dwellers of the Capital complex not to buy any second-hand vehicles from outsiders.
 ‘SUVs like Fortuner are being sold at Rs 10 to 15 lakh, and other Compact SUVs from Rs five to six lakh,’ added the SP while divulging that a case  No. 27/2020 U/S 120(B)/379/ 465/411/413/414/34 IPC has been registered in the Itanagar police station.
