NAHARLAGUN, Sep 29: Continuing its fight against drugs and other contraband substances in the capital region, Capital Police today arrested two drug peddlers including the son of an incumbent MLA.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Complex Tumme Amo informed that on September 28 at around 2100 hrs, a police team from Naharlagun consisting of Inspector K Yangfo, OC PS NLG, SI Binam Pertin, SI Giogi Tape and other police personnel led by Rike Kamsi, SDPO NLG, while patrolling in and around Naharlagun township found four persons namely Kajal Mandal (25), Rajesh Mandal (21), Manu Barman, (23 ) of Barapani near Barapani Bridge and Tojing Binggeb (24 ) near Little Rose school in inebriated conditions with clear signs of consuming drugs. They were stopped and while checking, a certain quantity of suspected heroin (NDPS Substance) was seized from Manu Barman. On interrogation, Kajal Mandal , Subash Mandal and Tojing Binggeb disclosed that the trio got the drugs from their 4th friend, Manu Barman. On further interrogation, Manu Barman revealed that he bought heroin from one L Lulu presently residing at Damsite, Naharlagun, SP added.
The matter was informed to both SP Amo and Assistant SP Capital Harsh Indora. Accordingly, SP Capital constituted the above team which conducted raid at the residence of L Lulu located at Damsite but was found to be absent from his residence. However, a search was made in the residence in the presence of his family members and no contraband was found. On further inquiry, the family members informed that he is staying with his wife. Accordingly, under close monitoring of SP and Additional SP Capital, the team conducted a search in the said residence on September 29 and more than 10 grams of suspected heroin, a cash amounting to Rs. 97,500, suspected to be the sale proceeds of drugs & large numbers of empty tubes were recovered.
On questioning, L Lulu admitted that the recovered heroin belongs to him. Meanwhile, Executive Magistrate Laxmi Dodum was also called and seizure was made in her presence. Accordingly, a case vide NLG PS Case No. 165/19 U/S 21(b) of NDPS Act was registered and the accused Manu Barman and L Lulu have been arrested. Further investigation is on to track the sources of recovered drugs, SP added.
