Itanagar, May 8: A meeting to review the preparedness level ahead of the forthcoming monsoon was held today here at the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Capital Complex, chaired by the DC cum Chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Himanshu Gupta.
DC urged all departments to prepare an advance action plan in order to tackle the coming monsoon season and directed all the line departments to further review and submit their disaster management plans as soon as possible. Emphasizing on the need for greater coordination among various stakeholders in order to tackle disasters collectively, the DC urged the EAC Itanagar/ Naharlagun and CO Banderdewa to identify vulnerable areas which are prone to disasters. He also directed the EE(PWD) to inspect the choked drains and carryout repair and maintenance immediately to avoid any spillover during monsoon.
Works departments like PWD, PHED, Electrical, WRD and the BSNL were also directed by the DC to work in coordination with each other so as to avoid any inconvenience to the public. DMO M Perme was also instructed to carry out publicity campaigns regarding various dos and don'ts during monsoon which frequently cause serious health hazards.
Status of the proposal for the bridge connecting Helipad area to Borum and the on-going project of the Division IV Bridge was also reviewed by the DC. The representative from TK Engineering and Consortium Private Limited was also directed to speed up work along the highway and immediately dispose off the muck along it. While vital suggestions and preventive measures for the upcoming monsoon were shared by the members present, DC also stressed on adopting proper measures and good practices in combating the future calamities.
SP Capital Complex Tumme Amo also pointed out few locations having instances of earlier disasters that need immediate attention. DDMO Moromi Dodum Sonam and ADC ICC Talom Dupak were also present in the meeting. DIPRO
