ITANAGAR, Jul 16:Following reports of sale of formalin-laced fish to enhance their shelf life in various parts, the capital complex administration has prohibited the sale and entry of fish from outside the North-eastern Region to the Capital Complex for a period of 30 days effective Monday.

This was decided during a meeting convened today in the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Complex Prince Dhawan to discuss the matter.

The DC stressed that consumption of such fishes may lead to serious health hazard and therefore necessary measures need to be adopted to ensure that such fishes are not imported to the Capital Complex.

 
He also directed the Administrative Officers to keep constant vigil and to conduct surprise checking along with the DMO and Food Safety Officers to contain entry and sale of chemically treated fish within the Capital Complex.
 

He has also directed the Market Welfare Associations/Bazar Welfare Committees, within the Capital Complex to sensitize the fish vendors and report any chemically treated fish consignment to the District Administration Capital Complex or DMO, Papum Pare or Food Safety Officer, Capital Complex for further necessary action.
The DC further directed the EACs Itanagar and Naharlagun to check the nuisance of illegal vendors along the highway and to allow the vendors/ shopkeepers to run their business only at designated places.
The Assistant Food controller cum Designated Officer Lokham Manga informed that test kits have been ordered which are expected to arrive in 10 to 15 days which will help detect presence of such chemicals in fishes. 
President, Itanagar Market Welfare Association, Yumlam Achung, informed that the IMWA is keeping constant vigil and is not allowing suspected cases to sell their goods in the capital’s markets.
The Nirjuli Market Welfare Association also expressed support and cooperation.
