ITANAGAR, May 3: Almost immediately after the announcement of relaxed norms by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding movement of stranded migrants, more than 872 migrant labourers/workers on Sunday were returned to their respective home towns in Assam from the twin capitals of Itanagar-Naharlagun under the supervision of the Capital DA and Police.
“Capital Police and Administration assisted the large number of stranded labourers to return to their homes in Assam today,” informed SP, Capital Region Tumme Amo. At least 348 migrant labourers from Itanagar and 524 from Naharalgun have been escorted in APST buses to Hollongi and Banderewa check gates and handed over to the Assam administration, the SP informed.
He further urged the stranded migrants and their employers to contact or report to the nearest police station if they intend to move out of the state to Assam.
