PASIGHAT, Feb 6: In a major breakthrough in crushing the illegal drug racket in the district, the Ruksin Police with the help of Women Against Social Evils (WASE) and magistrate have seized around 1.33 quintal of ganja on Sunday from 7 persons at Depi and Depi-Moli village under Ruksin Sub-Division (formerly under Nari Sub-Division), some 75 KM from here.
According to WASE, they received the information from reliable sources and accordingly informed the ADC Ruksin who in turn sent a magistrate and police for the purpose. In total homes of 7 suspects were raided from where several bags full of cannabis were seized totaling around 1.33 quintal whose market value are in several lakhs. Among the peddlers, Tanying Gamoh from Depi village is an Anchal Samity Member, Tamo Mibang from Depi and Tajoy Mingki from Depi Moli are Gram Chairpersons. Other four are Tumba Pakam, village secretary of Depi Moli and Eliyang Panyang, Poling Tagi and Lijum Eshi from Depi village.
Following the raid and FIR lodged by WASE team, police arrested all seven peddlers along with their wives who were said to be partners in the offense vide Ruksin PS Case No. 02/2018 U/S 20 A(b) I/27(a) (b) NDPS Act. All arrested have been sent to 7 days police remand more investigation and interrogation are launched to find out other people involved, told OC Ruksin, Tater Tamut when contacted. Meanwhile, ADC Ruksin, T. Pada has lauded the effort of WASE and its 32 members who were there at the ground and helped police in nabbing and peddlers. He further warned against its cultivation and cautioned of strict action.
Meanwhile, WASE President, Omem Ering has appealed the concern authorities to terminate the PRI leaders involved in drug peddling immediately. While General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong assumed that, when head of the village like ASM and GPM are involved, many other people from the village might also be involved.
“We want the district administration and the police to immediately check these illegal activities and our team is ready to render every possible help and support to curb the menace of drugs”, she added.
