YUPIA, Mar 17:

 

One day awareness cum training camp for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 was conducted at ZPC conference hall, Yupia today.
SDO Tabang Bodoung, who graced the function as chief guest in his keynote address stressed upon effective implementation of juvenile justice laws and Integrated Child Protection Schemes to protect and prevent children from indulging in any anti social activities which may be detrimental to their  life in future. He further said that every child must be protected and termed it the responsibility of every single person in society to make the world a safer place to live for every child without fear and discrimination. 
        

JFMC, Yupia and Principal Magistrate of Juvenile Justice Board, Habung Tangu, also spoke about proper implementation of Integrated Child Protection Schemes and said that ‘if ICPS schemes are properly implemented than we won’t see any children in the streets of the state and country as a whole; we must deliver our duties and responsibility with better commitment to make it work.’

 

Sharing his experiences of JJB he pointed out the shortcomings of JJB which needs urgent attention like separate Special Juvenile Police Unit to deal with such cases, presence of parents during interviewing process, proper facility of infrastructure, proper juvenile observation home in the district, presence of Juvenile Protection Officer, creation of stakeholders and agencies.

 

Taking part in the discussion, Child Welfare Committee, Chairperson Kani Nada Maling also shared her experiences and said that during such training camps police personnel equally need to be sensitized on their role and responsibility as role of police is very important for fair trial of juvenile cases.

 

Earlier, Dani Yami, DD ICDS cum DCPO, Yupia briefed the house about aim and objective of the awareness camp and requested the participants to take full benefit of the training programme. She also appreciated the CWC, Capital complex for their work.


Resource persons on the occasion, Nani Mamung, Assistant Professor, Arunachal Law Academy, Lekhi and Tarh Nagu, Legal cum Probation Officer, DCPU, Yupia gave presentation on the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and related provisions to stakeholders and agencies and brief speeches on various schemes covered and implemented under Integrated Child Protection Services under ICPS schemes respectively. CWC members and staffers of Oju mission, Childline Itanagar and legal advisers were present.
