BOMDILA, Jul 13: West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki on Monday accompanied by the engineers of the UD&H, administrative officers and other HoDs visited the Solid Waste Management (SWM) plant located at Khating 6-mile which was commissioned with the objective of increasing the cleanliness quotient here at the district headquarters through speedy disposal of garbage.
Reminding the need for initiating waste segregation at the household level itself which would facilitate the ease of work at the plant, DC assured to provide garbage bags, both for bio-degradable and non-degradable wastes to the households in Bomdila. He also directed the DHO and the DDA to procure vermicompost from the plant and instructed the UD&H to aggressively promote its sale at a rate lower than market prices. The DVO was further directed to provide free cow dung for vermin compositing from the farm located at Warjung which is near to the SWM plant. Besides the trommel and the windrow platforms, the DC along with the team of officers inspected the plant’s vermin compost pit, landfill site, leachate tank, approach road and protection walls.
Although the plant which was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 799.84 lakh is plagued with issues like skilled manpower, labour etc., the department concerned has been making concerted efforts to keep it afloat. DIPRO
