ITANAGAR, Jul 5: A case of murder and rape has been registered at Naharlalgun Police station after the body of a young woman was recovered along the banks of the Dikrong River opposite Orchid water factory on Friday.
On being informed, a team of police led by OC, Naharlagun, inspector, T Habung and ASI, K Tacha accompanied by a magistrate rushed to the spot and brought the body to RKM hospital for conducting an autopsy.
Police said a wristwatch, empty wallet and pair of footwear were found at the crime scene. However, the victim's mobile phone could not be located.
The body which was partially clothed had injury marks and police suspect the woman was probably raped and later murdered.
Meanwhile, the relatives of deceased have been located and the body has been identified by her husband. The deceased is a native of Tali village in Kra Daadi district and is a mother of five daughters and two sons.
Capital SP, Tumme Amo said they are looking at all possible angles to solve the case and awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
