Hundreds of common and progressive farmers from across the state gathered at the venue this morning and were present till evening to hear the speeches.

Addressing the gathering, President, T Tamuk informed that the dharna was organized to attend to farmers’ grievances and record it on paper, so that it can be later placed before the government to bring immediate solutions.

Disclosing that a three point memorandum reflecting few core issues concerning the farming community has been drawn out, he said the same will be submitted on Wednesday after putting together other points gathered in today’s programme.

All India Organising Committee Member, Danish Kulkarni urged the government to come to the rescue of farmers by providing them required amenities to boost economic development of the state.

The memorandum mentions that the work force in the farming sector in the state are mostly from poor sections of society and dependent on farm loans provided by various financial institutions.

In this regard, they urged the government to waive farm loans while suggesting such move would go a long way in helping farmers engaged in agricultural activities.

They also requested the  government to provide financial aid to breathe life into the defunct SHGs/ farmers club especially those SHGs run by women and initiate schemes for women welfare including establishment of multipurpose food processing centers in block and circle levels to provide employment opportunities to the youth.
