ITANAGAR, May 28: The 16-Yachuli BJP Mandal has called upon the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) to hasten its investigation into allegations of illegal appointments within the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Water Supply (WS) Department.
Addressing the media at the press club on Tuesday, Tania Tajing, BJP Mandal President of 16 Yachuli, highlighted findings from RTI documents, establishing that the Finance Department did not provide the required concurrence for the alleged illegal appointments. Tajing disclosed that the RTI response from the office of the Superintendent of Engineer, PHED & WS, Miao Circle, Changlang District, revealed an absence of documentation, suggesting severe corruption and abuse of power within the department.
Tajing further reported that the SE PHED & WS, Miao Changlang, appointed 23 Work Charged (WC) staff on two separate dates—21st February 2024 and 28th February 2024. However, RTI replies indicated no records of these appointments in the SE PHED & WS office, exacerbating suspicions of misconduct.
In a recent press briefing, the Toko Welfare Society (TWS) stated that Chief Engineer Toko Jyoti was not responsible for the appointments. While this is true, Tajing noted that evidence from documents indicated Jyoti's awareness of the corruption. He questioned the SIC's delay in making arrests despite the discovered evidence and urged a thorough investigation by the department.
Responding to TWS's inquiry about implicating the Chief Engineer in the illegal appointments, Tajing clarified that his name and signature appeared on all transfer notices, justifying his mention. He emphasized that there is no personal enmity involved, as they belong to the same constituency, and reiterated the need for accountability in the face of evident corruption.
The 16 Yachuli BJP Mandal has called for an exhaustive and swift investigation to address these serious allegations and restore integrity within the PHED & WS Department.
