ITANAGAR, May 2: Alleging large scale electoral malpractice at Sangram polling station under 18 Palin constituency, Kra-Daadi district by supporters of INC candidate in the recent re-poll, State BJP, Vice President, Tame Phassang on Thursday called for conducting another re-poll under tight security.
Addressing a press conference here today, Phassang claimed that INC supporters allegedly captured the Sangram polling booth and chased genuine voters in a desperate attempt to win the election.
"Voting is a common man’s right and nobody can deny it. But at Sangram, locals and even election agents were barred from entering the polling booth by supporters of the INC candidate,” he alleged terming the incident "very unfortunate".
Asserting that BJP party believes in free and fair election, the BJP VP further quashed the opposition’s claim that the party is pouring lots of money to manipulate elections in the state.
The BJP candidate for Palin, Balo Rajo, also vehemently refuted allegations levelled on him of not allowing INC polling agent to enter the Raibalo polling booth and allegedly mishandling the agent.
Rubbishing the allegations, Balo who said that concerned polling officers and presiding officer are witness to the incident stated that “no polling agent of the INC came to the polling booth thereby question of not allowing their agent to enter the polling station does not arise.”
Citing he will not try to win the election by “unfair or corrupt means", Balo said he followed Election Commission of India guidelines.
President, BJP Kra Daadi unit, Nguri Ngokyam was also present at the press conference.
