ITANAGAR, Apr 27: BJP candidate for Daporijo, Taniya Soki has vehemently refuted the allegation of bogus voting, booth capturing and inciting violence in few polling stations as leveled by his opponent JDU candidate, Dikto Yekar during the recently concluded assembly elections.
He also rubbished claims that he stayed more than 2 hours at Soki polling station and disturbed the smooth electioneering process.
As an aspiring candidate, Soki asserted that on April 11 after casting his vote he visited the Soki polling station including other polling stations to review the poll process. He claimed that he didn't stay for more than 10 minutes in each station.
On the contrary, Soki accused the JDU workers of not allowing more than 22 genuine voters of 12-Sikarijo and 14-Yekar polling stations from exercising their adult franchise at Yekar's behest.
He alleged that Yekar's supporters wearing JDU printed masks blocked the entrance leading to the 30-Jeke polling booth and intimidated voters not to cast their votes.
"When voters disobeyed their intimidation then JDU workers allegedly mishandled many voters, some of whom are now undergoing treatment at TRIHMS,” he informed.
Also refuting allegation of bogus voting, he clarified that a total  5 votes of dead people were cast in favor of Yekar and not him.
"The five dead people whose votes were illegally cast were relatives of Yekar,”  Soki said.
Soki also alleged that there were voters having names in two different electoral lists and person with two different names in a single polling station.
"Yamon Yekar, who is the daughter of contesting candidate Dikto Yekar was listed as Suman Yekar in Yekar village electoral list and in the voters list of Sikarijo too as Yamon Yekar," he said.
Further, Soki raised apprehension that the presence of large number of bogus voters might affect the electoral process and those who have manipulated the voter's list may get an undue advantage.
In this regard, he called for conducting repoll in the affected polling stations to ensure free & fair election.
Over the accusation of inciting violence, Soki while claiming peaceful conclusion of election process under his jurisdiction stated that the field verification and report of peaceful election submitted by RO and DC, Upper Subansiri to SEC indicates that Yekar's claim is baseless and unfounded.    .... A supporter also alleged large scale malpractice in 12-Sikarijo Polling Booth, wherein opponent JDU workers allegedly hijacked the whole polling process and illegally cast votes on behalf of villagers.
He cited an incident wherein a police personnel forcefully dragged a woman with a child out of the polling booth without any valid reason.
"When we contacted the concerned polling officer, we came to know her vote was already cast by someone else. Finally after heated arguments, the p
woman was given chance to cast her vote that too in the name of a different person," he informed.
